Drywall Texturing

Knock down, skip trowel, stomp, Spanish knife, and smooth level 5. We match existing textures on repairs and apply fresh texture on new drywall.

Six popular texture styles – each with a different look and feel.

Texture Types We Apply

Knock Down

Mottled, irregular pattern of flattened "islands." Subtle and natural-looking - hides imperfections well and is easy to repaint. Works in virtually any room.

Orange Peel

Subtle, uniform dimpled texture that resembles the skin of an orange. Created by spraying thinned compound and leaving it untouched. Clean and modern look.

Flat Walls

Flat wall drywall creates a smooth, seamless surface on interior walls, providing the perfect foundation for a flawless paint finish and a clean, modern look.

Skip Trowel

Hand-applied overlapping strokes create an organic, slightly Mediterranean feel. No two walls look exactly alike. Great for living rooms and entryways.

Stomp

Irregular, spiked pattern created by pressing a stomp brush into fresh compound. Adds significant depth and visual interest. Common on ceilings in older homes.

A white wall with a textured pattern resembling roses, expertly crafted by a skilled house painter, gives a floral and decorative appearance to the plastered surface. truecoat-painters

Spanish Knife

High-end artisan finish applied entirely by hand with a curved knife. Creates a plaster-like surface with depth and movement. Ideal for feature walls and upscale homes.

Flat Wall Finish Levels

Not all smooth walls are equal. Here is what Level 3, 4, and 5 actually mean.

L3: Level 3

Two coats of joint compound over all seams and fasteners, sanded smooth. The right choice when texture will cover the wall – most cost-effective option for textured finishes.

Price: $

L4: Level 4

An additional coat over everything described in Level 3 – seams, corners, and fasteners – sanded to a uniform smooth surface. The standard for most residential interiors.

Price: $$

L5: Level 5

A full skim coat applied over the entire surface – not just seams – and sanded to a perfectly uniform finish. Required for high-sheen paint and dramatic lighting situations.

Price: $$$

FAQ - Common Questions

Here are some questions we often get from our clients about drywall work.

Can you match an existing texture on a repair?

Yes – texture matching is one of the things we do most often. We assess the existing texture and replicate it as closely as possible. We always recommend painting the full wall after a repair rather than spot painting.

A single room repair with texture matching is typically a one-day job. Full room texturing on fresh drywall takes two to three days to allow for proper drying time between coats.

Yes – and this is one of the biggest advantages of working with us. We handle both drywall and painting, which means no handoff between contractors, no scheduling gaps, and a single point of contact.

Yes. All TrueCoat drywall and texture work comes with a written workmanship warranty covering application defects, seam cracking due to workmanship, and texture inconsistencies.

Usually not, but rooms being worked on should remain unused until cleanup and painting are complete.

Will repaired areas be visible after painting?

A properly repaired and painted wall or ceiling should blend in seamlessly to a stranger (you may notice a difference if you knew it was there). Primer and full-wall painting may be recommended for the best finish.

Yes, but popcorn ceiling finish is very difficult to replicate without doing the whole ceiling. You will see variations in texture of the repaired area versus the original for popcorn ceiling.

Yes. Existing texture can often be skim coated or sanded smooth before repainting.

Smooth walls, knockdown, and light orange peel are currently the most requested finishes in many newer homes in Colorado.

Yes. It can create significant dust and debris. Professional containment and floor protection are important.

Sometimes. Skim coating may work if the texture is stable and asbestos-free, but removal is often preferred for best results.
