Every hanging project follows the same thorough six-step process.
① Consultation and Scope Walkthrough
We assess the framing, measure square footage, identify problem areas, and discuss your desired finish level and texture.
You receive a transparent proposal before any work begins.
② Material Selection and Preparation
We select the right board type – 1/2″ for walls, 5/8″ for ceilings and fire-rated assemblies, moisture-resistant
for bathrooms and kitchens. Space is protected before any cutting begins.
③ Cutting and Hanging
Panels are measured, scored, and cut precisely. Fastened to studs at the correct spacing and pattern. Outlets,
windows, and doors are carefully cut out. Every panel is checked for level before we move on.
④ Taping and First Coat of Mud
All seams, corners, and fastener dimples are taped and covered with the first coat of joint compound.
Paper tape is embedded at every seam. Corner bead is applied at all outside corners.
⑤ Sanding and Additional Coats
Once dry, we sand and apply two to three additional coats – feathered wider with each
coat for invisible seams. We sand between every coat.
⑥ Final Finishing and Texture Application
Surface is inspected under raking light before the final finish coat. Texture is applied at this stage.
Space is cleaned up and left ready for paint.
Six popular texture styles – each with a different look and feel.
Mottled, irregular pattern of flattened "islands." Subtle and natural-looking - hides imperfections well and is easy to repaint. Works in virtually any room.
Hand-applied overlapping strokes create an organic, slightly Mediterranean feel. No two walls look exactly alike. Great for living rooms and entryways.
Irregular, spiked pattern created by pressing a stomp brush into fresh compound. Adds significant depth and visual interest. Common on ceilings in older homes.
High-end artisan finish applied entirely by hand with a curved knife. Creates a plaster-like surface with depth and movement. Ideal for feature walls and upscale homes.
Subtle, uniform dimpled texture that resembles the skin of an orange. Created by spraying thinned compound and leaving it untouched. Clean and modern look.
Flat wall drywall creates a smooth, seamless surface on interior walls, providing the perfect foundation for a flawless paint finish and a clean, modern look.
Not all smooth walls are equal. Here is what Level 3, 4, and 5 actually mean.
Two coats of joint compound over all seams and fasteners, sanded smooth. The right choice when texture will cover the wall – most cost-effective option for textured finishes.
Best for: Knock down, stomp, skip trowel, and Spanish knife finishes
An additional coat over everything – seams, corners, and fasteners – sanded to a uniform smooth surface. The standard for most residential interiors in Colorado.
Best for: Flat and eggshell paint in bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways
A full skim coat applied over the entire surface – not just seams – and sanded to a perfectly uniform finish. Required for high-sheen paint and dramatic lighting situations.
Best for: Satin and semi-gloss paint, raking light, contemporary interiors
Popcorn ceilings were standard in Colorado homes built between the 1950s and 1990s. Removing them is one of the most impactful upgrades you can make – and TrueCoat handles the entire process from removal to finished ceiling, ready to paint.
① Asbestos Testing (Pre – 1980 Homes)
Popcorn texture applied before 1980 may contain asbestos. We strongly recommend professional testing before any removal begins.
② Room Protection
All floors, furniture, and walls covered with plastic sheeting and drop cloths. Doors sealed to contain dust.
③ Wetting and Scraping
Texture is lightly misted with water to soften it, then carefully scraped in sections using wide-blade scrapers.
④ Drywall Repair and Finishing
Damage revealed by scraping is repaired and the ceiling is finished to Level 4 smooth or re-textured to your preference.
⑤ Ready for Paint
Ceiling is primed and left ready for paint. TrueCoat can handle painting as well for a seamless single-contractor experience.

Yes – texture matching is one of the things we do most often. We assess the existing texture and replicate it as closely as possible. We always recommend painting the full wall after a repair rather than spot painting.
A single room repair with texture matching is typically a one-day job. Full room texturing on fresh drywall takes two to three days to allow for proper drying time between coats.
